DALE WILLIAMS SIGNWRITING
Traditional Signwriting
ABOUT ME…
“I started my career painting & prepping signboards learning basic layouts then moved quickly to publicity blinds in 1984. I was fortunate to work closely with a lovely oldschool writer learning from him.
I began work at Hawesigns in 1980 and became self-employed and set up ‘Dale Williams Signwriting’ in 1986, and enjoyed several years painting pub signs, murals, lorries, shops and boats. Today I still love what I do and remain dedicated and committed to the craft. The projects I’m involved in are varied and I love the challenge this brings.”

NEWS – PROJECT SPOTLIGHT
VINTAGE LIVERY EM ROGERS

I was approached by EM Rogers a long standing Northampton Haulage company to produce traditional livery for one of their prize vintage Volvo lorries. Initially the cab was cleaned down to remove any contaminents, old polish, grease etc
The initial designs were sketched out matching the period of the vintage vehicle, Scale mockups and overlays are then created
to visualize the lettering onto the vehicle shape. Colours were selected in traditional 1 shot enamel paint mainly for their durability and gloss.
All lettering was done by hand and paper layouts were used or they were directly marked out with a stabilo.
The surrounding areas around are masked off to avoid paint splashes ready for paint to be applied using sable hair brushes.
Careful stroke techniques are used applying letters by hand with consistent brush pressure, working carefully to maintain curves and line widths. Shadows and Outlines add dimension with drop shadows, outlines, and highlights.
All enamels dry in hours, sealing is required in some cases most vintage vehicles don’t in order to preserve authenticity.
